Cellar Hole Finds (3 replies)

On April 21, 2012 I went metal detecting at a colonial cellar hole in search of old coins and relics. With my Whites MXT I hiked into the woods in search of the old foundations. The day started off strong, when the first signal I dug was a 1941 wheat cent, about 4 inches down in the middle of the old driveway. I focused mainly on the old cart paths several hundred feet behind the cellar hole. Eventually I got a solid quarter signal, an 83 on the VDI, at about 7 inches deep. I dug down to find a beautiful colonial flat button. I also dug a possible silver and gold Marines pin on top of a rock formation, along with another colonial flat button on the cart path. It was a nice day out at the old cellar hole, and with the colonial relics I found that day, I know there are more waiting to be found.

Anybody ever mount a Coiltek probe switch box to their GPX shaft? (2 replies)

There seems to be an issue with the switch box and the GPX rod.

I was trying to mount the switch box on my Carbon Fiber rod by snapping it on. Right away it was apparent that there would be no snapping because the rod wasn't giving and there is no give in the 'C' snap of the switch box.

I then decided to use my Mitutoyo calipers on the parts. The 'C' of the switch box has an internal diameter of .75" while the opening to the center is .68". Both the standard GPX shaft and the Carbon Fiber shaft has an external diameter of .88".

The stiffness of the 'C' on the switch box will not allow the piece to be snapped on and I'm afraid that if I force the issue it will break. So, I cannot mount the probe until I find a solution.

Any suggestions?

It appears the sandy soil it was found in welded to the steel on the outside (almost like the heat turned it to semi-glass) and the iron balls are stuck to the inside with a rust/sand/matrix mixture. The outside has cleaned up well but the interior looks as pictured...

My question is: Should I continue to use the electrolysis process or try to seal the case shot/mixture as is to preserve it's look?

Thanks for any input!

Mark

Garret AT Pro (never used) and a Fisher CZ-20 for sale (no replies)

I have a Garret AT Pro that has never been used. Bought it about a year ago then had it sent in in December for the "upgrade" and new warranty. Never had a chance to use it and now feel I won't need it after buying the new Minelab CTX 3030 soon. I am asking $525 shipped within CONUS only. I do accept and prefer Paypal.

Also have a Fisher CZ-20 with 8" coil and hard case. I have had this detector for 10 or 12 years but only used it maybe one week per year if I had a beach trip that year or not. So it has some age but not a lot of use and has always worked great for me. I am asking $600 shipped within CONUS only.
