You want to save those foam grips on your locator?

I found a way to save the foam grips on your metal detector. The materials are under $10. Go to Wally World or any big store that has tennis supplies (my guess you can use the stuff they use on bats too). Pick up a pack of Over Grips. Its replacement grip material for a tennis racket.
All you have to do then is carefully wrap the grip with the material. What I bought is not sticky so you have to put the what sticky band on to hold the material. I wrapped then re-wrapped my GPX 5000 grip so the material is re-usable. When it gets grubby or just needs changing take it off and replace with a new wrap.
