We tried a few new areas in the park, but we went back to the area by the water where we were having some luck with the silver finds. There is lots of trash in this small section, but we were working it nice and slow, and we managed to dig a couple more silver coins. Mikes finds of the day were, a Silver Roosevelt, a Sterling Religious pendant and two wheats with some clad. My take was a Silver Roosevelt, a silver ring and a few other finds. We spent 4 1/2 hours detecting for the day. Thanks for watching and best of luck on your next hunt. Some military items were advertised so I thought I would give it a try. Most of the military stuff gets picked up by collectors and reenactors. I spied this box in the outside part of this auction that usually has the tools, lawn and garden stuff. In the first picture you can just see the treasure poking through the junk on top. I ended up with 4 good digging shovels for my $15 . The 2 on the left are WW II with one dated 1944 made by Woods and the one on the right is an Ames dated 1965. The orange shovel is neat. Its about half the size of the normal and I think it would make a good hut shovel.

The Merc is 17s and the buffalo is no date and was an eyeball find in a wash I was working with the detector the war nickel is my 4th for the year they seem to turn up everywhere lately its a 42 P

suburban park about 2 blocks in size half looks awsome with big trees and mowed grass the other half is obviously moved around with a water sprinkle bball courts and a pavillion
The half that looks good produces nothing... the other half allthough loaded with trash is loaded with coins! The ground is bone dry and very rocky making sore hands with the Lesche digger-almost broke out the sampson shovel but I didnt think people would appreciate that so much. The Mercs are around 2-3 inches in depth and sound off like a shallow copper penny! Must be coupled with the ground conditions and the amount of corrosion on the coins. These are my finds from a 2 hour hunt yesterday. Also found a Barbados five centt piece, The half sounded AWESOME then I saw it and thought LARGE CENT then i saw ole ugly on the front How often do you run across a clad half anyways?

We have already had our best year with Minelab that we have ever had. I would like to thank all of you on this site who have given me the privilege of serving you.

We have updated the banner with the new prices to show the newest detectors by Minelab. They now have two new top-of-the-line machines - GPX5000 and GPX4800. They are not only upgrades to their best gold machine, but they also have a new "Coin and Relic" setting on each machine. I just got my own GPX5000 to try on some of my old relic hunting spots. Hopefully I'll be able to let you know how it does soon. We are expecting a big order of machines in this week for anyone interested in a new DIV machine.

We have also finally hired someone to get us a full-fledged website up soon. Thank you for all the patience with our meager web presence so far.

Once again, thank all of you and be sure to check out the new machines and let me or Steve know if we can help you.

Bob Sullivan
Proprietor,
CS Sales & Services
181 Pine St
Kilgore, TX 75662
(903) 983-1583
cssales@suddenlink.net

"You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him."
-- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

US Pre-Federal - 1783 Georgius Triumpho Copper Token (14 replies)

Maggie, Samantha and I just returned from a much needed after camp vacation. We met up with family in Historic Charles Town or known today as, Charleston S.C. This is the old country folks. Even though I packed the etracs and an xterra for Maggie, I only managed 1 short 2 hour hunt. I have misplaced some other finds which I will post at a later date.

The "Georgius Triumpho" is the only Washington token bearing the date of 1783 that is actually known to have circulated during the Confederation period.

~Of the many Washington copper pieces that are dated in and around this time period, it is theorized that very few were actually minted during this time period. The Georgius Triumpho is one of them that is believed to have been.

Debate exists as to whether the Georgius Triumpho was actually minted in honor of George Washington, or rather if it was minted in honor of George III. Speculations abound, most scholars familiar with this coin believe that it was produced in honor of George Washington. The gate depicted on the reverse has 13 vertical bars. And indeed, these same folks believe that the 4 cirque foils at each corner of the gate represent France, which aided the original colonies to gain independence.
I suppose I could clean the back a little better later. There is a lady standing behind the 13 bars representing freedom.

Thanks for looking!
