The Castle Ciphers (no replies)

I have worked on this problem for several years now. It all started with an investigation into the history of a well-known mansion in Buckhannon, WV known to the locals as "The Castle" because of its signature three-story tower. It has a long history that -- according to my research -- dates back to at least the 1860s. There are legends that tell of angered spirits, a curse and a series of underground catacombs built during the Civil War.The treasure comes in near the turn of the 20th century and leading up to post-World War I. A wealthy French family left a small fortune to their long-time friends at this mansion in Buckhannon. I don't know about the paranormal side of this... I'm very skeptical of such things. However, there are some things which I experienced and even captured on camera that defy logical explanation. I do know that the treasure part of the tale is real. I uncovered original written correspondences from the french Count and Countess to the family in Buckhannon as well as the ciphers that were supplied to me by a curator of the chateau... written by a member of the family residing at The Castle. I leave the rest of this mystery up to my fellow treasure hunters and investigators. I've done most of the work for you already. I have my reasons for not proceeding further. My research can be found at the following website: The Castle Ciphers Homepage. This should be plenty to get you started on the trail to the cache estimated in today's funds at $2 million USD. I'll answer what questions I can, and am willing to supply PDFs of all original letters that I have to those interested. I wouldn't have believed this either if I hadn't lived through it and seen it with my own eyes.
.

Civil War relic hunting in Alabama? (2 replies)

Hello I just recently got a tip for an old CS Camp that was along a spring from the president of my metal detecting club. He said it had been about 15 to 20 years since he'd hunted the site and he found some drops and some really old coins. So I did a little research and loaded my detector into my truck and drove an hour and ten minutes only to be told by the land owners wife that I would have to come back in the evening time to ask permission she also told me of how the last metal detectorists did not hold up to their end of the bargain but thats all she said. So anyways I drove around a bit and saw an opportunity to ask the neighbor of which the same spring runs through his yard and is 50 ft to 100 ft possibly from the camp if I could hunt there. He said no problem, and began to offer up story's of lost gold in the area and native american artifacts on his property. So after a few hours of hunting all i turned up was a toy gun in 20 pieces half a horse shoe, and an old hook and shackle, few balls of chain, piece of re-bar and an old cotton weight. So I finally got ahold of the landowner for the property with the CS camp in December and he told me to call back after the new year he also said the place had been picked clean and insisted there was nothing left. So I called him again this morning and he still insisted it would be a waste of time as there is nothing left but offered for me to call on a pretty saturday and see if he was home and i could hunt it then. Well anyways, I am hopeing someone on the Forum knows of any areas that I might have some luck in civil War relic hunting in alabama. I live in the biringham area. Please let me know thanks and have a blessed day. Michael Wayne

He died in 1993 and now I'm trying to get my sons interested in doing this. I know the areas were private property that he got permission to hunt on. He used to have a map of the areas he knew about but it vanished years ago before he died I think he gave it to someone. These areas had trenches on them and we found some cool things. I know most of you guys don't want to share your honey holes with others but it would be a big help. I might even could pay a little to these property owners for the hunt. I know my brother at one time knew a bunch of people back then who did this. They were looking for different things as far as relics go and they all shared honey holes for this reason. Any help would be great on this. Thanks
