I will hit it again next week with trying different settings such as Pro Zero, etc...The bullet is my first one found in the wild, (not being planted at the club hunt ) Thanks for looking, Trowel Head

So i sent one of the principals at one of my local schools and email asking for permission to hunt on the school grounds, i have done my research and it is around 80 years and from what i know never been hunted! (so no one beat me too it) but anyway i sent the principal a message a few days ago and no reply and i was reading on the internet ( yes i know, don't trust everything on the internet) , but i read that most schools were city owned and that although it is nice to ask for permission, it is not required, i guess i am wanting to know if anyone has ever detected at a school ground and if so how they went about it and if they got permission, cause i want to detect there but i don't want to get thrown in the slammer for doing so lol. And if anyone has, what are some typical things i might find if i was to get the chance to go look. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated, i respect all the older members of this group because they ultimately have the most experience and are wiling to help so if anyone has any info please comment and post something, anyway thanks again. If no one comments i will just ask some people at the next meeting, see ya and happy hunting :)

Would love to tag along... (4 replies)

Hi all ya all...
This Chris Nelson. Just a short introduction about myself.
I'm one of the newest to the club (Feb.), and still learning about this wonderful renewed Hobby. My nickname comes from the other hobby I have. Thats training and showing Agility Dogs. Love Golf (8 handicap) too if ya need to fill out a foursome or less. I had a detector when I was a kid in the 60's and loved it then. Of course pretty girls came along, an education, and fell away from MD'in.
I have a Garrett Ace 250 and love it so far. Looking forward to a bigger and better one. I've dug almost every inch of my front/back yard and found over $3 in clad and a Silver/Gold ring that has been the best highlight of my all my digging so far. Have a couple of neighbors that will let me dig their yards, but know I will only be finding what I've found in my yard.
Looking for the Club token has given me a couple short time digs in a few parks with no real finds. I think I've got it narrowed down to one particular park though. I walked through it the today and it showed no signs of it being dug/plugged yet, so thats good to see. Did find just one 1936 Merc but it looked like it was boiled in acid.
OK maybe that wasn't so short an intro.:S
I met a few of you at the last meeting, and hope to meet more as time goes on.
I'm looking for a couple of new dig buddies that will help show me the ropes, and a couple of different places I could dig.
I'm a business owner, and available most of the time to get away.
I can keep a secret too...
OK thanks for reading if you got this far and didn't give on this rambling poor slob pouring his heart out, and begging for a chance to dig for something different like a civil war bullet or a silver coin.
Thanks
Chris Nelson/AgilDog

Ring found and returned (2 replies)

Had a lady call me last Thursday and said she had lost her wedding ring at a local play ground. wanted to know the charge for trying to find it. Told her no charge. Had to work Friday so met her and her husbnd Sat. Morning to look for it. Grided area where she had lost the ring and started to swing the ETrack, after 1 and a half hour no ring. Went by Tim's shop on Monday and Tony was there and said if the ring was stright up and down the detector would not pick it up. Put me to thinking, put on small coil and scrub the grass. So tonight after work I went back to the area and with in 10 min. Ole ETrack hit that 12-02 in a clump of grass and there was a 14k with small dimonds. Took the ring to her house and gave it to her should have seen the tears. Did'nt have my camera with me at the time.
Thanks Tony and Tim for the info, without it I may have give up.
HH to all

Help with Civil War Camp Site finds (4 replies)

Hello, I am a new member of the 417 Relic Hunters, only been to 2 meetings. I have some questions about a Civil War Union Camp Site. I have permission by the owner of the property to detect on it. The owner has found cannon balls in the creek. There are also 2 graves on the site. So my question to you all is: What should I be looking for on this site? What item could be kept and what should be donated? Did they layout their camp in a certain direction. Would any areas be better to look for than others ( mess tent, headquarters,....) and what items would classify this as a Civil War site? What would you most likely find at a Civil War Camp Site? Any info about this would be very helpful. thanks, Looking forward to hearing from you. Patrick Oconnor
