It wasn't a day for high volumes, just a few common 3 ringers and this cool Ulster Guard cuff button. When it came out if the ground I could see a little of the guilt remained, and not recognizing the design was hoping it was confederate..... Was happy to see the result after the cleaning. So, I had in mind to get into a few Cav. huts today in the woods. Had all my gear and was ready to go. What I did not anticipate was that on the way in, I said to myself, " Mine as well check out this spot where I got a bunch of whole Spencers on the way in" There goes my original plan! Once the first whole Spencer came to light everything else was put on the back burner. Still wished I could have got into a hut today...maybe next time! LOL!

Just shared some of my relics with 4 classes of 4th graders (4 replies)

The classes all went to Pamplin park and saw the museum and all the artifacts and how they wished they could hold them. So today I took a few items in to show and pass around. "bullets in bags of course" Don't want to little ones touching lead.. but I was amazed again at the questions and how their minds just opened up to holding fuses, buttons, bullets and seeing swords, carved bullets and coins. Truly one of the great benefits of the hobby is to share something and spark imagination.

It also re-sparked my wanting to go and start digging again. I have been so busy with work since I moved to VA 2 years ago I think I have gone once. I think its time I relax a bit and get the old detector out and start hunting again. Funny how While trying to spark imagination in 4th graders they can turn around and spark mine.. Moving to a new state, moving from your digging buddies is like switching schools. I have to make new friends and learn new areas but thats part of the fun too.

Jon Harris

Went to a Union campsite that I have POUNDED over the last 20 years. Three signals was all I dug. The first a musket ball, the second a state staff cuff, and the last, not more than 4 inches in the ground, a BEAUTIFUL US cartridge box plate with both loops on the back! I don't know how it had been missed. I can tell you it certainly made my day! It will be interesting to see what the state staff cuff seal is as the plate was resting less than 5 feet away from it!
