I located this spot using Google Earth. What was I thinking, on May 13,2013 I had just ordered a New Minelab E-Trac. I was using my Minelab Excalibur 800 and a Babb's Stainless Steel Tip Scoop. The Flat Button are on the left of the Show Case and the Coins are on the right. I found numerous coins laying on top of the sand. Example- Classic Head Large Cent, Seated Half Dollar and some Shield Nickels and Flat Buttons.
I now know to take a Pinpointer on the next trip. All the small items fell thru the holes in the scoop and I had to shift them by hand. Included is a 1830 Cap Bust Half Dime- 5 Half Dimes ,Seated Dimes and 5 Shield Nickels 1866- 1883. My 1st Coin dug at the waters edge was a Copper 3 Cent Nickel 1865-1889.Trying to get better pictures, try different cleaning methods to get some of the crustatrion off of the Buttons and Coin. I will update with pictures. I've been Detecting for 30 years and mainly follow North Eastern Storms and Hurricanes, I'm keeping track on Florida today . Stay Tune.

I though i might get to a park so the 4000 was light, had the 8" coil on it. Went to the beach with it to see if i could hunt dry sand, It did very good so though i will try in the wet sand, that detector worked better than the MXT, a CZ6a that a guy had, I about fell over, even in the water no sound till you hit a target. I got 2 quarters and 5 pennies in the water. This has fixed ground balance, no salt mode. If you have one, take it to the salt water and see if yours dose the same. I was totally surprised.

Cold Water Gloves; what are you using (1 reply)

I am planning on MD, slucing and panning this summer here in Colorado. I will most likely be working creeks; fast moving water. I have been researching 'wet' scuba gloves and booties for warmth and wearability, (not waterproof) and would like some feedback. Is a 5m glove too thick for normal handling of equipment, or a thinner 3m glove not enough insulation for probably 35 to 40 degree snowmelt? Is a kevlar glove too slippery, etc. What is your actual experience in these conditions for gloves. I don't think that a waterproof glove is going to work, especially if I have my arm underwater pulling up rocks, siphoning, etc.
I will probably get a 7m or 9m bootie for insulation and wear knee boots, so a bootie that does not have a lot of sole would be better.
I have only been coin shooting so far without any real interesting finds. Since I actually live here in Colorado, and have been camping everywhere in the past 35 years, I can't pass up using my old Bounty Hunter, new MXT or recently purchased ancient Garrett ADS up in the mine fields and tailings of my most beautiful high country. Any direction on legalities would be helpful as well...Thanks

Detecting in Florida (4 replies)

Anyone have any tips on detecting in water at beach in Florida. Brand new at this, just learning sounds but its very confusing. We bought a Garrett AT PRO, loving it, but not sure yet about those sounds. We have it set on standard coins, for beginners, don't know the difference in the long drawn out sound and the ding,ding...Don't know the difference in the 55 reading and the 85 reading, still learning, only had this thing a few weeks and used it twice, we are very confused in the noise it makes, as it will ding, ding, and then a inch over it will ding ding again, and so we don't know where to dig, Oh well, we are trying to have fun with it in the back yard, and hope we can figure it out while in Fla in a few weeks. Going to some beaches and hope to find some bling, even tho we don't even know what to set this thing on, we will still have fun and get a good suntan. Any tips would surely help us and we thank you in advance....

Low lake tips needed please (18 replies)

Hi all - lake hunting newbies who have finally gotten to retirement and now have time to play as we've wanted to do for years. We're down in south TX and thought some of the lakes that are low might be good. We have the scoopers with holes in them, and can hunt in about 2-3 foot of water without getting in trouble with the detector (not an underwater detector). Any tips on the how/where/what to do with our first experiences of hunting low lakes? Any advice is more than what I currently have! We also fish, so that's why we're already into the lake scene...
