I live in Utah and have been detecting for 16 years. I have always wanted to go on a treasure vacation and I think this would be a blast. If you have not yet picked participants for the next hunt I think I will be throwing my hat in the ring.

Around here finds are rarely older than the 1870's. I do have a few eagle buttons and I have found a large cent and an 1820's militia button. So my experience with this type of hunting is slim but I am sure it is a blast, it is after all treasure hunting. :)

Thanks,

John

Walls. He died between 9:00 and 10:30 am at the Battle of Chancellorsville. His unit, Company I, 126th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, had been held in reserve but, at 8:00 am, was brought to the front to face the Confederates. During the ordered retreat, George was shot and killed.

He was mustered into service August 13, 1862, on a nine months enlistment. He was recruited in Juniata County, PA. Company I was mustered out on May 20, 1863, a mere seven days after George died. He left behind a wife and five children, one child had died before him. My great grandfather, William, was his only son.

I passed through Chancellorsville on May 3, remembering that George’s story, while personal to me, was not unlike that of thousands of others who have given their lives in defense of their beliefs and their country, patriots all.

Off Topic? Walkout Basement. (17 replies)

Does anyone here have experience digging a walkout basement? We are looking at a house and the only thing it doesn't have is a way to get out of the basement. Susan won't even think about buying a house without a way for the kids to get out of the basement in case of a fire. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Todd

It is a solid gold masonic emblem ID shield belonging to Sgt. Edwin Graves, Co. F, 37th Mass. Vol. Infantry. He was wounded at The Wilderness and died in Fredericksburg a few weeks later. There is much written about Edwin in a couple books on the 37th.

Thanks to Randy McMahon a picture of Sgt. Graves has surfaced, posted on a blog by his Great Grandson. If you would like to read more here's the link: http://thegravesfamilyandthecivilwar.blogspot.com/2013/01/sergeant-edwin-graves-37th.html
I love it when history comes alive!!!!

The archies can say what they like but this piece of history would have NEVER been recovered had it not been for a knowledgable and dedicated detectorist!

What type of bullet is this? (3 replies)

This one has been stumping me since I found it the last day of DIV. It looks a lot like an Enfield, but it has a "plug" (as I call it) at the top of the bullet. Of the Enfields I've seen online, none of them have one like that. My next guess was a Starr, but they don't have as deep a cavity in the bullet base. My deepest suspicion is that it's Confederate, considering how crude it is and the fact it's smooth (no rings). What do you guys think?

Oh, I got pics for this one this time :)

Thanks guys!

Tim
