an old 1897 country two-story house gives up treasure
 | The purpose of our the SHRRA is to research, find and preserve artifacts of our American Heritage. The meeting is the first Monday of every month at the Italian Pie Restaurant in Slidell, La. Last weekend, one of my digging buddies wanted to go to an old school site which was closed in the 1930s. The wooden structure is still barely standing, but we found zilch there.
So we crossed the road at a victorian style house which was very fine for its day. The owner told us we could hunt his yard (he knew me), so we did. My partner found two very old wheaties-dates gone- and I found one wheatie and a 1924 mercury dime. It was worn but the date was as plain as day. That's the first silver dime I've found in many years, though I was fortunate to find a walking liberty quarter (also 1924) last year.
This isn't a spectacular find, but for this ole country boy, uncovering history makes the hobby worth while! No pics yet, but I'll have it at the meeting of SHRRA monday night.
