carthage metal detecting day

Welcome to the Premiere Springfield Southwest Missouri Metal Detecting Club. We want to provide members with a metal detecting club where one can exchange ideas, share individual finds, learn new concepts and ideas, meet new people and help introduce the hobby of metal detecting to new people young and old. Our overall purpose will be to stimulate interest in Metal Detecting, Relic Hunting and the Appreciation for the Art of Preserving our Natural History.

Meeting location: Springfield Greene County Library, 4653 South Campbell Ave. Springfield, Mo. 65810
Meeting time: the first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm.

PREAMBLE:
We the members of the 417 Relic Hunters, assemble ourselves for the following purpose: To learn, discover and to educate our members in a way to recover antiquities of the past by conducting ourselves in a manner that is courteous and polite with respect for others and to establish good fellowship with all other fellow hunters.

i didn't find any c.w. relics but i had a great time trying! about $1.36 in clad, a handful of pulltabs,a piece of broken jewelry, silver maybe? saw a couple of nice relics detectorists found, and couldn't ask for better weather! i hope carthage will have it again next year! 417 relic hunters club had a lot of members there! it was neat meeting detectorists from different places!

mixed emotions about the hunt...lol...I work for the parks dept in Carthage and just bought a sovereign a while back but haven`t got to do much hunting yet...I saw a lot of nice stuff dug up. I was happy for the fellas who found it but couldn`t help but think " man there goes a bunch of stuff I might of found". I really did enjoy getting to talk to a bunch of people that enjoy treasure hunting as much as I do. If they do it again next year I`ll hopefully know some of you guys on here and we can visit.

What do you think the general mood of the people of Carthage was concerning The metal detecting day?

I didn`t hear anything negative about it at all. If anything I think it got a lot of peoples curiousity up...maybe even a few sales for someone.

Glad to hear that it was a positive experience for the residents. I kinda wondered how that would go with the attempted ban last year.
